背景 | PCPE-1 is a 55 kDa extracellular protein that lacks intrinsic enzymaticactivity. It functions as a substrate-specific adaptor protein thatstimulates C-terminal processing of the fibrillar procollagens I, IIand III by PCP (also known as BMP-1/tolloid metalloproteinases). PCPEis naturally processed into N-terminal fragments of 34 and 36 kDas,both of which also enhance PCP. A 16.5 kDa protein corresponding to aC-terminal fragment of PCPE has been described and shown to havemetalloproteinase inhibitor activity. Human PCPE-1 shares approximately81% amino acid sequence homology with mouse and rat PCPE-1. |
