背景 | Human Tissue Factor Pathway Inhibitor 2 (TFPI-2), also known as placental protein 5 (PP5) and retinal pigment epithelial cell factor 1 (REF-1), is a secreted protein with an N-terminal acidic region, three Kunitz (K) domains (amino acids 36 to 86, 96 to 149 and 158 to 208) separated with by two linker regions, and a C-terminal basic region (1‑3). It is a Kunitz-type serine protease inhibitor secreted by all cells of the vasculature (endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, and fibroblasts) into the extracellular matrix (ECM), where it plays a role in the regulation of urokinase/plasmin-mediated ECM turnover. Expression of TFPI-2 is down-regulated in several cancers, which may contribute to tumor progression in these cancers (4). |
