背景 | Seipin/BSCL2 is a homo-oligomeric membrane protein at the endoplasmic reticulum lipid droplet junction (1). Studies have demonstrated that Seipin/BSCL2 plays an important role in adipogenesis, lipid droplet homeostasis, liposis, brain development, and spermatogenesis. However, the exact function of BSCL2/Seipin is still not clear (2-5). BSCL2/Seipin is mutated in several human diseases, including Berardinelli-Seip congenital lipodystrophy, an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by a near absence of adipose tissues, severe insulin resistance, hypertriglyceridemia, hepatic steatosis, and early onset of diabetes (6-8). |
